Guangzhou

Well, it's the first Easter Sunday in a long time that I did not attend church.  But Tina and I decided to take a day-trip to Guangzhou, and Easter just happened to be the best time to do it.  Within the last year, a train station has opened in Zhu hai, just next to the Macau Border Gate.  From that station, you can take a fast train to Guangzhou, so that the trip only takes roughly an hour instead of the two hours it would take by bus.

We met Tina's friend Yiyi for dimsum.  The dimsum restaurant WAS quite crowded, even at 1 pm on a Sunday afternoon.

 

 

Part of our dim sum meal.  We ordered about ten dishes.  From top to bottom, stewed pork ribs, spicy pork in an edible shell, my favorite nai huang bao (steamed buns with sweetened egg yolk filling inside - I ate three myself), choy sum, durian dumplings, red-bean and pork pastries, rice congee...and...

 

..chicken feet!  Tina's favorite!  It's one of the few Chinese dishes I won't try more than once.  Congealed blood is another.

We met up with Esther for shopping then dinner.  Esther is Macau-Canadian.  She grew up in Canada, and had only visited Macau once or twice.  Now, her family has re-located back to Macau, and she's working as an English teacher in a local high-school. I'm so jealous of her tri-lingual status!  We had a delicious dinner of eel-baked rice, iced eel pieces with wasabi, and stir-fried greens.

 

 

Back in the train station.  We caught the last train to the border gate, and arrived at the train station at approximately 11:55.  The border closes at midnight, and after a mad dash, were the last ones through for the night.  Whew!  We nearly had to spend the night at the all-night massage parlor.  :P :P  Just joking, Mom, we would've called Cathy and tried to stay at her place first.
